How to Compare PVC Air Hose Quotes
Compare PVC air hose quotes against the same model dimensions, operating requirements and supply scope before comparing the price per metre. A nominal size alone does not identify the construction or working pressure. This guide gives importers and distributors a repeatable way to compare offers and prepare a clear request for quotation.
Start with the application and the supply format
State whether you are buying bulk hose on a coil, cut lengths, or finished assemblies. A bulk-hose price and an assembly price cover different work and components. For compressed-air service, give the equipment connection, maximum operating pressure, expected temperature, hose length and working environment. Include any pulsing, movement, oil exposure or outdoor storage that the supplier must assess.
The Sunhose PVC air hose page describes the tube, reinforcement and cover and publishes model rows. Use that page to identify candidates, then have the selected configuration confirmed against the actual service. A catalog description is not a substitute for an application-specific selection.
Why two “quarter-inch” hoses are different purchases
The following are two rows from the current Sunhose PVC air hose table. Both have the same nominal size and internal diameter, but their outside diameter, working pressure, burst pressure and mass differ.
| Catalog field | SHA06512 | SHA65125 |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal size | 1/4" | 1/4" |
| Inside diameter | 6.5 mm | 6.5 mm |
| Outside diameter | 12 mm | 12.5 mm |
| Coil length | 100 m | 100 m |
| Working pressure | 20 bar | 30 bar |
| Burst pressure | 80 bar | 95 bar |
| Listed mass | 0.10 kg/m | 0.12 kg/m |
For the listed coil lengths, the calculated hose-only masses are 10 kg and 12 kg. These calculations exclude wrapping, reels, fittings and cartons; they are not shipping weights. Ask for packed weights and dimensions separately. Source: PVC air hose model table.
If one quote only says “1/4 inch, 100 metres”, request the missing ID, OD, model and pressure data before ranking it beside either row. A higher pressure value also does not make one product the right choice for every application. Fitting compatibility, operating conditions and handling requirements still matter.
Compare like-for-like technical fields
| Field to put in the RFQ | What to check in each offer |
|---|---|
| Model or agreed drawing | The quote names the exact item rather than a general product family. |
| ID, OD and tolerances | The measurement method, units and acceptable dimensional variation are stated. |
| Working pressure and conditions | The selected model is assessed for your maximum operating pressure and temperature. |
| Tube, reinforcement and cover | Construction and required material properties are identified; color is not used as a specification. |
| Length and quantity | Coil length, number of coils and total metres agree. |
| Ends and accessories | Cut ends, fitted couplings, clamps, protectors and any assembly work are itemized. |
| Inspection and records | Sampling, acceptance criteria and the reports required for this order are agreed. |
Keep working pressure and burst pressure in separate columns. Burst pressure is not a permitted continuous operating pressure, and a calculated ratio from two catalog numbers is not a universal design rule. If operating temperature or duty differs from the stated conditions, request the applicable rating before acceptance.
Compare PVC, rubber and hybrid alternatives without assumptions
If a supplier proposes a different material, compare the actual alternative model rather than relying on a generic “better” label. The rubber air/water hose and hybrid air hose pages provide separate product information. Ask for the same fields in all three offers: ID, OD, length, working pressure, operating temperature, mass, connections and compatibility with the intended medium.
Do not assume that every rubber hose has the same formulation, or that every hybrid hose has the same low-temperature behavior. A purchasing comparison should show which requirement each proposed model meets and which points still need written clarification.
Normalize the commercial scope
Request the currency, price basis, quantity break, packing description and quote validity. For shipping, name the requested trade term and location so that two offers cover the same delivery scope. Keep the product cost separate from packing, assembly and freight where those are separately quoted. No MOQ, lead time or price is established by this guide; these belong in the offer for the selected configuration.
Compare the sample with the agreed specification and retain its model reference. Specify any wall printing, labels, brand artwork or packaging instructions before the production quotation is accepted. Ask which sample and customization options are available for the chosen model, including any additional requirements or charges.
A concise RFQ you can reuse
Send the following information through the request a quote form:
- Product and model, or the required ID, OD and dimensional tolerances.
- Compressed-air application, equipment connection and operating conditions.
- Coil or assembly format, length per unit, quantity per size and required ends.
- Packing, marking and any sample requirements.
- Inspection criteria and documents required for the destination market.
- Delivery destination and requested commercial terms.
Ask the supplier to list any deviations in a separate response. That makes an alternative visible before order confirmation and avoids treating a different OD, shorter coil or unfinished end as an equivalent offer.
Questions buyers often ask
Can I compare only the price per coil?
Only after verifying the coil length and the included scope. Convert comparable offers to the same total metres and retain packing and accessory costs separately.
Does the same nominal inch size guarantee the same fitting fit?
No. Compare actual ID and OD, dimensional tolerances and the specified connection. A nominal label does not describe the complete hose assembly.
Should the heaviest hose always win?
No. Mass is a logistics and construction comparison field. It is not, by itself, proof of suitability, service life or compliance.
What if a test report is offered?
Check that it identifies the relevant model or construction, the test conditions and the scope covered. Agree the records required for the actual order with the supplier.
